Date: 24th June 2025

Location: Online

Please note this event is for Members only

This event was part of our NERUPI series focused on specific student groups highlighted by the Office for Students through their Equalities of Opportunities Risk Register. A specific cluster of risks affect the participation of minority ethnic groups, particularly those identified as ‘black’ or ‘mixed’. These include quality of information and guidance, perceptions of HE, lower application success rates, insufficient academic and personal support, mental health issues and progression to employment. In this online session Fatmata K Daramy provided an overview of the OfS approach, considering the strengths and limitations of the categories and risk-based system. Perspectives from South Asian, ‘black’ and East Asian experience were explored by Shames Maskeen, Barbara Adewumi and Ada Mau before the session moved on to a presentation and discussion led by Deborah Husbands on impostor phenomenon along with capacity building for individuals and organisations to promote positive change.

This event took place online from 14:00 - 16:45.
