Student Voice Working Group event: Amplifying Student Voice in Outreach and Supported Entry

In this session Dawn Dowling and Jack Chamberlain give an overview of how Newcastle University integrates student voice throughout the student journey. From student-led supported entry activities to graduate-led outreach, they highlight practical approaches guided by the NERUPI framework, offering ideas and inspiration for institutions looking to strengthen student engagement.

This session will run from 13:30 - 15:00.

Dawn Dowling, Newcastle University

Dawn joined the UK Recruitment Team at Newcastle University in 2013 and has worked in a variety of roles in student recruitment. She is currently a Student Recruitment Manager with a focus on fair access and widening participation. Her role primarily involves the management of the PARTNERS Programme Supported Entry Route which has now supported over 13,000 students from underrepresented backgrounds into study at Newcastle University. In addition she has oversight of the other alternative routes into Newcastle University including contextual admissions, Realising Opportunities and Pathways to Newcastle. Dawn is passionate about supporting young people to realise their full potential regardless of background.

Jack is a Student Recruitment Manager at Newcastle University, focused on improving student engagement and using feedback to drive meaningful change. He leads the development of outreach strategies that connect diverse learners and support access to higher education, while ensuring that student voice remains central to evaluation and decision-making.
