The OfS has already championed an expansion in the quality and quantity of evaluation for work on equality of opportunity in higher education. It now intends to ensure that the access and participation plan process requires providers commit to high quality published evaluations of their work in this area and that its regulation will support a thriving, impact-oriented evaluation culture. John will outline how OfS intends to go about this and is keen to hear feedback on how best to frame its regulation to ensure the evidence in this field is reliable, valid and credible to external observers, whilst also ensuring practitioners have the space to develop new projects, challenge existing assumptions about the causes and consequences of social mobility in higher education and learn from disappointing outcomes as much as successful ones.
